(Coincidentally, that's the length of the machine's warranty, if you register it.EEventManager.exe file information EEventManager.exe process in Windows Task Manager Epson includes enough ink in the box to print up to 14,000 black pages or 11,200 color pages, which, if you print about 580 monochrome pages or 480 color pages, should last you about two years. Only Canon's MegaTank products, including the G4210, can match these numbers. ![]() This machine's most attractive feature is its under 1-cent running costs for both monochrome (0.3 cents) and color (0.9) pages. In any case, photo output surpasses requirements for, say, real estate and other sales-oriented images. Some users may even find them attractive enough for keeper photos. While this isn't a photo-centric AIO, like most Epson inkjets, the ST-4000 churns out attractive, brilliant, detailed, and accurately colored images, more than suitable for business documents. I did see some very minor banding in some large, dark fills, as well as some slight stepping from one tint or color to the next in a few gradients. This WorkForce AIO also churns out respectable-looking graphics, with solid fills, well-delineated hairlines (rules less than 1 point), and gradients that graduate smoothly from one color or tint to the next. Like its predecessor and most other WorkForce printers, the ST-4000 prints well-formed and highly legible text down to about 6 points, which is suitable for most business-related documents. That's respectable for this level of a printer, and faster or on par with its competition. When I combined the results from the above 12-page text document with those from printing our more complex color Acrobat, Excel, and PowerPoint documents containing graphics and photos, the print time dropped to 7.6ppm. It printed our standard 12-page Microsoft Word black text document at the rate of 16.5ppm (with a first-page-out speed of 9 seconds), which is a bit faster than its rating and slightly faster than its predecessor and most of its competitors. I tested it over Ethernet from our standard Intel Core i5-equipped testbed PC running Windows 10 Professional. Faster Than Most CompetitorsĮpson rates the ST-4000 at 15 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome pages and 8ppm for color pages. Aside from the basic drivers, you get the highly capable Epson Scan 2 scanner interface, Epson Event Manager for controlling scans and creating basic workflow profiles, Epson Fax Utility, Epson Scan OCR Component for converting scanned text to editable text, and Epson Software Updater. The software bundle, though effective, is scant-there's no photo-correcting and -editing software here. And third-party connectors consist of Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Android, Fire, iOS, and Mopria Print Service. The company's stable of Epson Connect apps includes Epson Email Print, Epson Remote Print, Epson Scan to Cloud, and Epson iPrint App (iOS, Android). Most WorkForce models, including the ST-4000, come with the basic Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and USB interfaces. ![]() Canon doesn't publish volume ratings for the G4210. The OfficeJet 6978's duty cycle is four times that of the ST-4000. The Brother model discussed here also has a 5,000-page duty cycle, but its recommended volume is almost twice as high. As office-oriented AIOs go, though, these entry-level models differ very little in desktop real estate requirements-they're all petite.Įpson's maximum monthly duty cycle rating for the ST-4000 is 5,000 pages, with a recommended monthly print volume of 800 sheets. It's a bit bigger than several competitors, including Canon's similar bulk-ink AIO, the Pixma G4210 MegaTank All-in-One Brother's MFC-J995DW INKvestment Tank All-in-One and HP's comparable OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One. ![]() Small But MightyĪt 10 by 16.4 by 19.8 inches (HWD) and weighing only 16.1 pounds, the ST-4000 is exactly the same size and girth as its predecessor, the ET-4750. But if your print volume is higher, the WorkForce ST-4000 is an exceptional value that's worth spending more on up front to save in the long term. ![]() If your small office only prints a couple hundred pages a month, the Editors' Choice Brother MFC-J995DW is a better choice. While it costs significantly more than most competing AIOs, it's a bulk-ink model that comes with thousands of pages worth of ink in the box and has exceptionally low running costs. The Epson WorkForce ST-4000 ($499.99) is a bulk-ink all-in-one printer intended for moderate-volume workloads in micro and home-based offices.
